When it’s too good to be true, it probably is

“It’s too good to be true.”
.
We’ve heard a lot of our clients say that at the beginning, when they start to relate to us the circumstances behind the cases they give us. And always, it does turn out to be so – too good to be true, that is.
.
Let’s face it. The world isn’t perfect, and when something that looks ‘perfect’ comes along, the rational and responsible reaction should be to be wary and suspicious. Some people, whether a professional / business or romantic relationship – may have something close to ‘perfect’ but that kind of relationship is built and cultivated and worked at; it never just “comes along”. Sometimes it is a matter of luck, but well, the odds of that happening are just like the chances of you winning the lottery.
.
We’ve lost count of how many clients who’ve told us how their romantic or business partnership seemed to go without a hitch at the beginning – sometimes for months, and sometimes even for years – before everything fell apart. You have to understand that scam artists always try to allay suspicion first before they make their move. They get you to trust them because the deeper in they get, the more they can bleed you – to their profit, of course.
.
You may think that it’s a bleak outlook, but really, it’s not. It’s a sensible and reasonable way to look at things, especially when none of us can really know the reasons or intentions behind something, especially at the beginning of a relationship, whether business or romantic. And really, you owe it to yourself to know if a person is starting a business or personal relationship with your for the right reasons. You deserve to know if you’re going to be made into just another victim of theirs that they forget and hide from once they’ve gotten what they want.
.
I remember one client of ours a few years back who wanted a background check done on a business partner of his, who happened to be a local guy. We checked him out and found that he was clean. Our client thanked us and said that he would be able to sleep better at night knowing that his business partner was clean. They continue to have a strong business relationship to this day, and their business is flourishing.
.
When something seems too good to be true on the onset, it should be your first instinct to doubt it. That’s also the prudent thing to do, for your sake. Real good things stay good things even if you have it checked out, but false good things, well, fall apart when subjected to scrutiny.
.
Remember that the truth can sometimes be elusive, and some people take advantage of that. They make you feel like everything is perfect, so that you let your guard down and after a while, the lie will be solidified as truth to you. You need to stop them before they latch their claws onto you.

It’s a sad fact, but what you really said is true. There is really no truth to these too good to be true operations. They make you think you’ve stumbled into some gold mine and they make it so like it’s a big secret and only a select few know. A very close friend of mine was victimized by this. He did get some money for a few months, and that even convinced him to invest more. At the very least, he should have tried to recoup his initial investment before investing some more. Greed makes people foolish.

there really is no such thing as a free meal ticket in this world. The successful people today have gotten to where they are because of their unique vision, A LOT of hard work, and a bit of luck. And many also fail to see the hundreds and even thousands of others who have failed at the same thing. And nobody gets by on luck alone, which is what these scams are using you to bait with. It’s not good luck, it’s a scam, people. Think of it – what makes you so ‘deserving’ to be let in on some big financial secret? What makes you so special from this girls previous customers? Really. Think before you leap.

Damien: “Greed makes people foolish”. I like that statement. It’s not bad to want some extra income here and there, but that does not excuse any of us from thinking things through first before committing to any financial arrangement or investment. Especially in this day and age where money is hard to come by, sound thinking is a requirement.
Richard: thank you very much for jotting down your thoughts here. Great points, especially when you said, “Think of it – what makes you so ‘deserving’ to be let in on some big financial secret? What makes you so special from this girls previous customers?” Kudos on that. I couldn’t have said it any better.
